Joseph Dorsa

Joseph Dorsa, age 87, left this earth for his heavenly golf course on Jan. 19, 2010, to meet with the Lord. He was preceeded by his parents Anthony and Elizabeth Oro Dorsa. Joe is survived by his precious wife of 39 years, Frances Ann, and loving children Deborah Dorsa Carman and Jerry of Little Rock, Gary and Vicki Lindley of Springfield, MO, Steve and Vicky Lindley of Prairie Groove, and Kim Lindley Salazar and Mike of Fayetteville. Joe had seven grand children Carrissa (Rick) Sawyer, Mike and Robyn Lindley, Jay (Abby) Carman, Stevie Lindley, Lindsey (Joel) Taylor and Shelby Salazar. He was blessed with seven great grandchildren, Turner, Trent and Tessa Sawyer, Grace and Jackson Carman, Logan Lindley, and Caleb Taylor. Joseph was born of Italian immigrants who settled in Kansas City, MO. His parents died when he was young and was raised by other family members. He is also survived by two cousins, Vince (June) and Vinnie Oro. After high school graduation, World War II began and Joe immediately enlisted in the United States Marine Corp. He served in the Pacific front until the end of the war. He attended Rockhurst College in Kansas City for several years. The majority of his professional career was spent in the poultry industry. After several job related transfers, to MS and AR, his family settled in Springdale, AR in 1962. He took a managerial position with George's Feed and worked there for 26 years. The George's always treated Joe like family. Joe was a devote Catholic and a loyal member of St.Raphael's Catholic Church in Springdale for over 45 years. The family is grateful for visits from Fr. John Connell during his illness. Throughout his life, Joe was very athletic. He played any sport involving a ball. He would swim daily and cross country ski on the golf course when it snowed. He took pride in his ability to repair and invent things that would make life easier around the house. He had more tools than Sears and had the date of their purchase marked on each one. In his senior years, he spent most of his time playing golf with his special group of golf buddies at Springdale Country Club. The rest of his time was spent eating the delicious cooking his "kitchen queen", Frances Ann, made daily. Joe's "one liners" would always bring a smile to your face. It was difficult to outwit him. As a father and grand parent, he continually imparted wisdom, discipline, tidbits of history, personal stories of the old days, hoping we would gain from his experiences, and always offered unconditional love. Throughout their 39 years, Joe and Frances Ann enjoyed many things together, especially cutting a rug on the dance floor. Their devotion to one another was boundless. In one of Joe's last comments he referred to Frances Ann as "an angel walking on this earth". The family is grateful to the staff of caregivers at Circle of Life in Springdale who made every effort to make Joe's final days comfortable and maintain his dignity. We also thank Drs. Counce, Oakhill, Thomason, APN Kenneth Goff, Mary McKinney and Fr. John Connell who tended to the medical and spiritual needs of our HERO, Joe. Pallbearers: Steve Lindley, Gary Lindley, Jay Carman, Rick Sawyer, Gary George and Barry Beck. Honorary pallbearers: Vince Oro, Ray Yeatman, Reid Holiman, David Evans, Gene George, Arnold Williams, Richard Niccum, Harold D. Hewitt. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorials to Joe be made to St. Raphael's School Scholarship Fund, 1386 S. West End St., Springdale, Arkansas 72762 or Circle of Life Hospice Center 901 Jones Rd., Springdale, Arkansas 72762 or to a charity of your choice. Visitation will be at Sisco Funeral Chapel, 705 W. Meadow, Springdale, AR from 4:00 to 6:00 p.m. Thursday Jan. 21st a Rosary will follow at 6:00 p.m. Funeral Mass will be at St. Raphael's Catholic Church, 1386 S. West End St. (off Hwy. 412) on Friday, Jan. 22nd at 11:00 a.m. with Father James Melnick officiating. Burial will be in Bluff Cemetery.
