Cindy (Cynthia) Susan Mitchell McGhee

Cindy (Cynthia) Susan Mitchell McGhee, wife of George C. McGhee, Jr., passed away on March 26, 2026. She was born in Tulsa on March 1, 1954, to Donald Sumner Mitchell & Frances Joan Burckhalter Mitchell, both of whom preceded her in death. Cindy is survived by her brother, Ken (Gwen) Mitchell of Florida and sister Linda (John) Fields of Oklahoma, two nephews, David (Megan) Fields and Mark (Brittany) Fields of Washington, and nine beloved grandnieces and nephews, Ezra, Ruth, Molly, Alex, Nathan, Lucy, Evan, Summer and Adeline Fields. Cindy was happily married for 36 years. Cynthia’s calling in life was to be a prayer warrior for her friends and family. She had a three-page list of her loved ones, which she combed over three times a week, calling out to God for each one individually— health, spiritual strength, salvation—whatever each one needed. Her second commitment to faith was in praise and worship at her beloved New Life Tabernacle Pentecostal Church of God. She loved to stand on the front row, lifting her arms, playing the tambourine, singing, with all-out worship to her heavenly Father. He was dear to her, her Companion, her Guide, her King. At home, Cindy enjoyed decorating her home with white candles, flowers, and loved her puppies. She chose not to have any children, and laughingly told her friends that she gave all her attention to her husband, George, who was her biggest kid and her biggest fan. George and Cindy ran their own heat and air business for thirty-five years. Cindy organized and managed the paperwork side of the business. She also loved abstract art and frequented art museums on the weekends. Earlier in life she wrote poetry, and earned a Master of Fine Arts in Creative Writing at the University of Arkansas, having graduated cum laud from Lindenwood College in St. Charles, Missouri. Cindy attended Tulsa Memorial HS, where she played flute in the marching band and was active in several clubs, graduating in 1972. In high school, she gave the message at her church’s Youth Sunday service, contrasting a heart of flesh with a heart of stone (Ezekiel 36:26). She traveled to Italy, France, Hawaii, won the John Ciardi Poetry Award, the Lilly Peter Writing Award, the Spahmer Creative Writing Award. The highest award she desired was the words, "Well done, good and faithful servant," with which she hoped Jesus would welcome her into heaven. Funeral Services will be held on Monday, March 30, 2026 at 6pm at Sisco Funeral Chapel in Springdale, AR with Pastor Terry Slinker. Visitation will begin at 5pm.
