Danny Dean Hoskinson

Danny Dean Hoskinson was born May 22, 1934, in Copeland, Kansas, to Harold Raymond and Thelma Oneita (Armentrout) Hoskinson. He was the fourth of eleven children and grew up on the Kansas plains, where he learned early the importance of family, hard work, and helping others. Dan passed away peacefully at home on Saturday, August 8, 2026, with Barbara, his wife of nearly 66 years, and his children by his side. He attended Salem Valley Grade School and graduated from Ingalls High School in 1952. After high school, Dan joined the United States Air Force and served his country for four years during the years following the Korean War. After leaving the Air Force, Dan returned home and met Barbara Rae Bergen, the love of his life. They were married August 14, 1960, in Ingalls, Kansas. Together they raised four children and built a life centered around their family, their faith, and the many friendships they made along the way. As a young adult, Dan was baptized into the Seventh-day Adventist Church. His faith remained an important part of his life and was reflected in the way he treated people and cared for others. Dan attended Madison College in Tennessee, where he earned his teaching degree, and later earned a master's degree in education from the University of Northern Colorado in Greeley. Dan loved being a teacher. For 37 years, he taught and served as a principal in the Seventh-day Adventist school system. His career took him to Iola, Topeka, and Overland Park, Kansas. In 1971, he and Barbara moved their family to Loveland, Colorado, where he taught at H.M.S. Richards Seventh-day Adventist School. He also taught at N. L. Beebe Seventh-day Adventist School in Fort Collins before returning to H.M.S. Richards, where he finished his teaching career and retired in 1999. Some of Dan's happiest memories came from the years he spent with his students. He loved playing football and softball with them at recess, joking with them, and getting to know them outside of their schoolwork. He wanted his students to learn, but just as importantly, he wanted them to become good people and to know that they were valued and loved. Even many years later, former students still affectionately called him "Mr. H." Dan never really stopped being a teacher. He especially loved technology. He enjoyed learning about computers and new gadgets and used email, text messaging, and Facebook to stay connected with former students, friends, and family. He genuinely enjoyed hearing what was happening in their lives and watching the families of his former students grow through the years.After retiring from teaching, Dan worked at OfficeMax in Loveland and later at Staples in Branson, Missouri. He especially enjoyed helping older adults who were trying to figure out computers, printers, phones, or other technology. After retirement, Dan and Barbara lived in Forsyth, Missouri; Keene, Texas; and finally Siloam Springs, Arkansas. Wherever they lived, they found a church family, made new friends, and stayed connected with old ones. Dan enjoyed camping, gardening, and sports. He was a loyal Kansas City Chiefs and Kansas City Royals fan and loved his University of Kansas Jayhawks. He also had a wonderfully dry sense of humor. He could say something with a completely straight face, and it might take you a second to realize he was joking. He is survived by Barbara; his children, Larinda (Scott) Fandrich of Lincoln, Nebraska, Brad (Teresa) Hoskinson of Joshua, Texas, Eric (Melissa) Hoskinson of Nixa, Missouri, and Jared (Nicole) Hoskinson of Siloam Springs, Arkansas. He was a proud grandfather to Alex Fandrich; Lindsay (Jordan) Vargas; Jared Fandrich; Tyler (Allison) Hoskinson; Tanner Hoskinson; Justin Hoskinson; Ella Hoskinson; Travis Hoskinson; Janie (Kaleb) Coleman; Trevin (Hannah) Hoskinson; and Lena Hoskinson. He was also blessed with a great-grandson, Nemesio Vargas. Dan was preceded in death by his parents; his sisters, Margaret, Thelma "Toke," and Karol; his brothers, Harold Jr., Ron, Chuck, Richard, Melvin, and Leonard; and several nieces and nephews. He is survived by his youngest brother, Joe, along with many nieces, nephews, extended family members, former students, and friends. Dan spent his life teaching, encouraging, helping, and loving the people God placed in his path. We will miss him terribly, but we are grateful for the many years we had with him and for the faith that gives us the hope of seeing him again. A memorial service celebrating Dan's life will be held Saturday, September 12, 2026, at 4:00 p.m. at the Gentry Seventh-day Adventist Church in Gentry, Arkansas. In memory of Dan, our family invites those who would like to honor him to support the Worthy Student Fund at Ozark Adventist Academy, where his son, Jared, is carrying on his legacy of teaching.
