Donald Norman Framstad

Donald Norman Framstad, 85 of Springdale, AR passed away on November 4, 2022 at the VA Hospital in Fayetteville AR. He was born in Watertown, SD on June 27, 1937 to Norman and Agnes Wall Framstad. Don graduated from Willow Lake High (SD) in 1955 and joined the Air Force in May of that same year at the age of 17. After serving four years in France, he left the AF to help on the family farm. Don re-enlisted in the AF shortly after in 1959 and was stationed in Iceland. He married JaNean M Tellinghuisen in May of 1962 following their romantic letters correspondence, and began their 60-year marriage stationed in Blytheville, AR. In 1963 they were sent to Ramstein Germany where he served the first of two different rotations there with a stint to Omaha NE and a year in Vietnam serving in the war in-between. He was very glad to come home from Vietnam because there was "a lot of shooting going on there". Don retired after 20 years of service in the Air Force as a Tech Sergeant where he spent 4 years as an aircraft electrician and 16 years as a cryptographer. While serving he earned the Meritorious Service Award twice for exemplary service. After retirement Don settled with his family in Springdale, AR. where he took a job that lasted another 20 years as a Medical Administrative Assistant at the VA Hospital in Fayetteville, AR. retiring in 1996. Don also served as Commander of the local American Legion from 1998 - 2010 and he was also a member of the VFW in Springdale. He is preceded in death by his parents, and one brother Phillip Framstad of De Smet, SD. Survivors include his wife of 60 years, JaNean Framstad, his daughter Donna Murie of Springdale, his son David Framstad and wife Cathy McCall of Springdale. Two grandchildren Dylan Framstad and Margaret Murie, one sister, Lou Ann Frost of Phoenix, AZ., one sister-in-law Marylee Framstad of De Smet, SD., and several nieces and nephews. Services will be Monday, November 14, 2022 at 11am at First Presbyterian Church in Springdale. Burial will follow in Fayetteville National Cemetery.
