Mary Lynn Carnes

Mary Lynn Carnes,67, of Springdale, Arkansas, passed away peacefully at the Fayetteville Health and Rehabilitation Facility on January 13, 2026, after a long battle with dementia, surrounded by family and friends. She was born December 28, 1958, in Clarksville, Arkansas. Her greatest joy was her son, Shane, and being a part of his activities, from watching #77 with the West Fork football team to working the chutes on many late nights for his team-roping. She proudly bought him his first horse, Sonny, when he was twelve years old and they spent many happy hours together. She stayed busy getting him- and many of his friends- to the activities they loved. She was well- known by his friends for her cheese dip, and it was requested often! She loved to play cards, hunt and do anything outdoors. She was always excited to be the recipient of anything flavored Red Velvet. She spent many happy hours on reunion trips to Florida with her dear school friends. Mary Lynn graduated with honors from DeSoto County High School in Florida-receiving the Presidential Academic Honor Award. She was a member of Liberty 86 Church in West Fork. She was a hard-worker and retired from Levi-Strauss. She was preceded in death by her niece, Richelle Scott Fry and her great-nephew, Christopher “Cowboy” Madewell. She is survived by her son, Shane, wife Katie and granddaughter, Tessie Lynn, sister, Kimberly Roberts, stepsister Valerie Harp, stepbrothers Mark and Charles Houston, and her parents, Bob and Monta Houston. “Auntie” is also survived by her loving nieces, Lucy Madewell and Randa Graham, great-niece Cylee Madewell, great-nephews James and Dalton Graham, and great- great nieces Essie,Lilly and Eralyn Graham. Mary Lynn’s family would like to express their gratitude to the staff at Fayetteville Health and Rehabilitation Facility for the loving and compassionate care and genuine affection they showed her. Her last few years were greatly enhanced by being in such a positive environment-they and the other residents gave her joy in living and were like family. A special thank-you to long-time family friend, Rhonda Hulse, for the years of loving help with Mary Lynn and for going above and beyond for the family in many ways and at any time needed. Her loving presence on Tuesday meant so much and was a great source of comfort to the family. Funeral Services will be Wednesday, January 21, 2026 at 12pm at Sisco Funeral Chapel of Springdale. Burial will follow in Habberton Cemetery. Visitation will be from 11am - 12pm at the funeral home.
