Sarah M. Day, 95, of Springdale, bid farewell to this world on July 25, 2023, at the age of 95. Born on September 19, 1927, in the picturesque town of Mountain Grove, Missouri, she was the cherished daughter of John Louis Mitchell and Tillie Robinson Mitchell. At the tender age of 5, Sarah's family moved to Springdale, where they settled on a serene farmstead along Jones Road. Her early life was marked by unwavering determination and hard work. As a young girl attending Oak Grove School House, she would diligently walk to school each day, and her dedication was rewarded when she picked grapes to earn enough for her very own bicycle. The family's farm was a testament to self-sufficiency, where they grew their own food and even fashioned their clothing. In times of great hardship, during the Great Depression, they generously provided food to those in need, extending a helping hand to anyone who required it. It was during one such occasion at Tontitown that Sarah discovered the joy of her first slice of pizza, relishing in new experiences. In the year 1950, Sarah's life took a beautiful turn when she met her beloved husband, Lawrence Orr Day, at the First Baptist Church in Springdale. As lifelong Baptists, their faith was an integral part of their lives, guiding them through both joyous and challenging times. Sarah worked diligently as a Teller at the First National Bank, later exploring various roles at Foremost Tastemark and Long-Bell Lumber Company. Together with her husband, she ventured into the world of entrepreneurship, successfully operating several rental properties and a store on the east side of town. Sarah's life was filled with love, family, and cherished memories. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, Lawrence Orr Day, and siblings, John Mitchell, Ruby Lloyd, Donald Mitchell, and one grandchild, Denice Lynn Day. Left to cherish her memory are her two devoted sons, Lawrence Daniel Day of Springdale and Don Charles Day, and his wife Deanna Lynn. Her legacy continues through her two beloved grandchildren, Amanda Day Coley and her husband John, and Jeremy Brent Day and his wife Amy. Five great-grandchildren, Wyatt Austin Cypert, Lillie Mae Baker-Coley, Carter Brent Day, Carson Albert Day, and Caitlyn Marie Day, carry forward her warmth and kindness. Sarah's former daughter-in-law, Lois Ann Day of Cave Springs, also survives her. Family and friends are invited to join in the celebration of Sarah's life at the funeral services, which will be held on Tuesday, August 1, 2023, at 10 am at Sisco Funeral Chapel of Springdale, with Pastor Doug Grubbs officiating. Following the service, she will be laid to rest in the Friendship Cemetery. Prior to the service, a visitation will take place at the funeral home from 9 am to 10 am.
