Bettie Jean (Estes) Wise

Bettie Jean (Estes Williams) Wise, beloved wife, mother, grandmother, great- grandmother, great-great-grandmother and friend to all who knew her, passed through the veil on August 10, 2026 in Springdale, Arkansas at the age of 100. Bettie was born on April 3,1926 in Houston, Texas to Kenner Eugene (Gene) and Lyndel (Meador) Estes. She graduated in 1943 from Stephen F. Austin High School in Houston, where she served as the secretary of her senior class. After graduating from high school, Bettie worked at the Dickson Gun Plant as a clerk before attending Texas State College for Women in Denton, TX. In October of 1946, Bettie married Ebbie Louis Williams, Jr. and soon after they were blessed with a sweet baby boy, E.L. (Sandy) Williams III. Bettie’s young husband, E. L. passed away in 1949 after a life-long battle with kidney disease. Five years later, Bettie met George Edwin Wise on a blind sailing date and they were married in May of 1954. They increased their family with the births of George Edwin (Eddie), Lyndel Elizabeth (Lynn), and Donald Eugene (Don). They enjoyed forty-seven years of marriage together before George’s passing in 2001. Bettie was a Texan, through and through and was a proud member of The Daughters of The Republic of Texas. She was also an active member of The Daughters of The Confederacy and The Daughters of the American Revolution. She learned to play the accordion during high school and was invited to teach some of the young students, which she enjoyed. Bettie was also an accomplished seamstress and enjoyed refinishing furniture. As a small child and throughout her life, Bettie desired to know more about and grow closer to her Savior, Jesus Christ. She loved Him deeply and taught her children by example and words. When Bettie was a small child, her mother would drop her off at the close church where she would go into Sunday School and learn songs about Jesus. As an adult, Bettie volunteered time and energy in the Presbyterian Church and as a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints. She especially enjoyed her years as a missionary for the church doing office work for the area facilities representative. Bettie loved people and touched lives wherever she went. She loved her family, immediate and extended as well as her ancestors. She served in the Family History Center in various stakes of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints for almost 50 years. She loved teaching others to learn how to search for their deceased relatives and enjoyed doing genealogical research herself. She loved helping people in any way that she could. She opened her home to family members, others in need of help and for a while enjoyed having the missionaries live with her. Mana, as she was called, adored her grandchildren and great-grandchildren and loved seeing pictures of her great-great grandchildren. All the children loved going to stay with Mana and Baca and have been blessed by her outpouring of love throughout the years. Bettie was preceded in death by her parents, her husbands, E. L. Williams Jr. and George Edwin Wise. She is survived by her four children, E. L. (Sandy) Williams III (Debbie) of Georgetown, TX, George Edwin (Eddie) Wise (Liz) of New Orleans, LA, Lyndel Elizabeth (Lynn) Wise Bull (Mark) of Tontitown, AR and Donald Eugene (Don) Wise (Elizabeth) of Cedar Park, TX. She is also survived by eight grandchildren, eleven great-grandchildren and two great-great grandchildren. A service will be held graveside at the Forest Park Lawndale Cemetery (6900 Lawndale Street, Houston, TX) on Friday, August 14, 2026 at 2:00 p.m. A Celebration of Bettie’s Life will be held on September 12, 2026 in Cedar Park, Texas.
