David Lee Wright

David Lee Wright, 76, of Springdale, passed away on Tuesday, June 6, 2023, at his home. He was born on January 10, 1947, in Springdale to Doyle Wright and Ruth Cordes Wright. After high-school, David served in the US Army. Then, he worked at Harps Food for 45 years, starting as a meat cutter and working his way up to Meat Director. He was known by many for his strong work ethic and tough expectations. He never really retired from the grocery business. He shopped the weekly ads and drove to each store to get the best deal. Often, he would buy food and give it to those in need. When he wasn’t shopping, he was on the mower and took great pride in his yard. He will be remembered for his quick witted humor, love of dancing, a wallet full of $100 bills, and a generous spirit. Most of all, he will be greatly missed by his family. The most devoted father and grandfather to his girls, the “six-pack” (grandkids) and the “side-kicks” (great-grands). At Papaw’s house, he always made their favorite meals, with jokes and unlimited life advice on the side. He was a member at Calvary Freewill Baptist Church. Some of his proudest moments were seeing the pew filled with his family. He was preceded in death by his parents and his five siblings: Melvin Wright, Margie Kendrick, Ronnie Wright, Doris Matthews, and Tommy Wright. Survivors include his two daughters, Kim Moore and her husband Mike of Springdale, and Nicole Shockley and her husband Eddie of Springdale; one brother, Doyle Wright Jr. and his wife Norma of Springdale; and one sister, Norma Glover of Springdale. He is also survived by six grandchildren: Kaylee Bailey and her husband Mason, Emily Dugger and her husband Brady, Cole Shockley, Hayden Shockley, Rachel Moore, and Emma Claire Shockley; as well as two great-grandchildren: Ava Bailey and Banks Dugger. Funeral services will be held on Saturday, June 10, 2023, at 1 pm at Calvary Freewill Baptist Church in Springdale, with Pastor Clark Snow and Pastor Leon Hodge officiating. Burial will follow at Bluff Cemetery. Visitation will take place at the church starting at 12 pm on Saturday. The pallbearers will be Mike Moore, Eddie Shockley, Cole Shockley, Hayden Shockley, Mason Bailey, and Brady Dugger. Honorary pallbearers include Doyle Wright Jr., Carl Kendrick, William Hayles, Tom Tipton, Don Harvey, and Jason Wright.
