Donald Floyd Preece

Donald Floyd Preece, a longtime resident of Springdale, Arkansas, passed away peacefully surrounded by family on July 1, 2026, at age 84. He was born on October 2, 1941, in Norfolk, Virginia, to Floyd and Clara Preece. Don attended Fishback School, Springdale High School, and college. At 17 years old, Don enlisted in the Air Force and became an A&P Mechanic, serving for eight years during the Vietnam War. During his service, he was stationed in the Philippines, California, and Lubbock, Texas. A passionate aviator, Don held both commercial and private pilot’s licenses. While living in Los Angeles, California, he flew for the Flying Tigers, an independent transport company. Later, while living in Dallas, he worked as an A&P Mechanic at Addison Airport and co-owned a bi-wing airplane that he flew for crop dusting. His dedication to public service in Texas was extensive: he served as a Driver Engineer, Firefighter/EMT for the Town of Addison, eventually becoming the Town of Addison’s Director of Public Utilities, and served as a Lewisville City Councilman for four years. Don was an entrepreneur at heart, owning and operating several businesses over the years, including Satisfaction Grounds Care, Satisfaction Cars, and Don’s Backflow Prevention. Don could sell you anything, even the shirt off his back! After retiring, he worked for the City of Springdale Water Department. Don was known for his passion for airplanes, motorcycles, cars, and anything that went fast! He loved riding his motorcycle with Bill Miller and often attended Honda Wing Dings with Bill Moore. He attended El Camino Rallies in Texas and won several trophies. He loved staying busy, running errands, mowing the yard, often joking that “everyday is Saturday except for Sunday”. He had a deep heart for others and a profound love for the Lord, wanting everyone to know his Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ. He volunteered with The Gideons International distributing Bibles and taught a men’s Sunday School. Don continually served his community in creative ways whether he was "Dr. Kool-Aid" at Vacation Bible School, fixing broken bicycles to give to elementary school children, driving elderly women to church, mowing yards for church members, or frequently buying food for friends who were down on their luck. Don was also a bit of a rascal who thoroughly enjoyed giving others a hard time, always keeping everyone on their toes! He possessed a legendary sweet tooth and a deep love for ice cream, which was rivaled only by his passion for reading. He enjoyed reading westerns, mysteries, and science fiction books. He was known for reading a book while attending major league baseball games with his grandsons. A fantastic host, he loved nothing more than firing up the grill for family gatherings and church friends. He cherished the time spent swimming and eating ice cream with his grandkids and playing Farkle, a game where he was notoriously caught cheating just for the fun of it, all while believing he was one handsome guy! Don is no longer suffering from dementia or has he called it “CRN–Can’t Remember Nothing”. He's strolling down the golden streets of heaven, enjoying an ice cream cone with his arm wrapped around Peggy. His fun humor, generous spirit, passion, and joy for life will be greatly missed by all who knew him. In his own words “The good Lord has surely blessed me!” Don is survived by his sister, Nancy Fink; his children, Paige Anthony, Katie Markello, Pam Williams, Gwendolyn Hernandez, and Brenda Mora; his grandchildren, Austin Anthony, Jake Anthony, Emily Anthony, Zachary Markello, Luke Markello, Michele Bybee, Nick Williams, Keenan Williams, Bianca Hernandez-Synder, Mateo Hernandez, Andrey Baramuli, Joshua Mora, and Luccianno Mora; his great-grandchildren, Greer Bybee,Teddy Bybee, McKenzie Williams, Knox Williams, Luke Williams, Aria Hernandez, and Luca Hernandez; countless nieces and nephews; and church family. He was preceded in death by his parents, Floyd and Clara Preece; his brother, Bill Preece; his wife, Peggy Preece; and her son, Sam Williams. A visitation will be held on Wednesday, July 22, 2026, at Sisco Funeral Chapel from 5:00 to 7:00 pm. The funeral service will follow on Thursday, July 23, 2026, at 10:00 am at Berry Street Baptist Church in Springdale, Arkansas.
