Doris Jean Hatchett Layne

Doris Jean Hatchett Layne 88, a resident of Butterfield Trail Village, peacefully entered into the gates of Heaven at Circle of Life Hospice in Springdale on May 19, surrounded by family. The family would like to express gratitude and appreciation for the exceptional loving and tender care their mother received at Circle of Life Hospice. Doris Jean Hatchett Layne was born on October 6, 1934, the youngest child of Edna and Elbert Hatchett, in Springdale. The Hatchett family moved to Elm Springs, Arkansas when Doris was seven (7) years old. She attended elementary school in Elm Springs and graduated from Springdale High School. She met the love of her life, Raymond Layne at the VFW Hall dance in January of 1952 when Raymond was home on leave from the Army. They eloped the following weekend and were married on Sunday, February 3, 1952. Upon Raymond’s discharge from the Army, they moved to Calipatria, California in 1956. While living there, Doris held many positions within the local school systems, while also attending Business College at Imperial Valley Jr. College. The Layne family later moved back to Arkansas in 1963 where they raised their children - Jeannie Rae Layne Burks, Danny Ray Layne, and Kathy Underwood Layne Bowman. Doris’ spent her lifetime helping others; working at Springdale Memorial Hospital, and was the receptionist/office manager for Dr. Dale Huntington at Huntington Chiropractic before retiring. Doris is preceded in death by her husband, Raymond Layne, her parents, Elbert and Edna Hatchett, her brother Raymond Hatchett, and her sister Louise Pettus. Doris is survived by her three children and their spouses, Jeannie Burks (Loy), Danny Layne (Jannie) and Kathy Bowman (fiancé, Randal Richardson). Her grandchildren, Jodi Steltenpohl, Kirby Burks, Scott Layne, Daniel Layne, Tara Santos, Cameron Bowman, and Mikaela Bowman; and her great grandchildren, Alexandra Steltenpohl, Madeline Steltenpohl, Daniel Layne, Jr., Bella Dillman, Korbin Burks, Scarlett Santos and Cole Santos. Visitation will be Monday, May 22, 2023 at Sisco Funeral Chapel from 5-7pm. Funeral Services will be held Tuesday, May 23, 2023 at 2pm at Sisco Funeral Chapel of Springdale with Charlie Foster officiating. Burial will follow in Elm Springs Cemetery.
